8 Days Southern Omo Valley and Danakil Depression Tours
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Mekelle – Drive to Dodom – Erta Ale Volcano
On arrival at Bole International Airport, transfer to domestic flight airport for flight to Mekelle. Upon arrival at Atse Yohannes Int Airport, drive to Dodom at the base of Erta Ale. Early breakfast at 07:30, then 70 km drive through desert landscape (~5 hours). Trek 9.5 km to Erta Ale (~3 hours). Camels carry camping materials and food to the rim of the volcano. Overnight camping on top of Erta Ale watching the lava lake.
Day 2: Dodom – Hammedele
Descend from Erta Ale around 9:00 am. Return to Dodom after breakfast (07:00). Drive to Hamad Ela village (~500 people). Overnight camping in Hamad Ela.
Day 3: Hamedela – Mekele – Addis Ababa
Drive to Ragad (Asebo) to observe salt mining and camel caravans. Visit Dallol and Lake Assal. Return to Hamedela, proceed to Mekele, fly to Addis Ababa. Overnight in Addis Ababa hotel.
Day 4: Fly Addis – Lalibela
Transfer to airport for flight to Lalibela. Visit rock-hewn cathedrals including Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Mariam, Bete Meskal, Bete Denaghel, Bete Golgotha, Bete Mikael, and Bete Giorgis.
Day 5: Fly Lalibela – Addis – Arba Minch – Chencha Dorze Villages
Arrival at Arba Minch. Drive to Dorze village in Gughe Mountains to see traditional Dorze houses and culture.
Day 6: Konso – Turmi
Boat trip on Lake Chamo, visit crocodile market, hippos, birds. Drive to Turmi visiting Konso village (UNESCO site) and Bana village. Overnight in Turmi among Hamer people.
Day 7: Turmi – Omorate – Jinka
Visit Dassanech people in Omorate. Return to Turmi for lunch, then drive to Jinka to meet Ari people.
Day 8: Jinka – Mago – Jinka – Addis Ababa
Visit Mago National Park and Mursi village. Return to Jinka for lunch, transfer to Jinka Airport, fly to Addis Ababa. Evening folkloric dinner with traditional coffee ceremony. End of tour.
11 Days Combined Tours
Day 1: Drive to Kombolecha
Driving to Kombolcha via Debre Birhan. Pass the Mezezo Escarpment, possible sightings of endemic gelada baboons. If Sunday, stop in Senbete to visit lively markets including camel market.
Day 2: Drive to Lalibela
Full day driving through stunning countryside to Lalibela. Stop to admire landscapes along the way.
Day 3: Lalibela
Short flight to Lalibela transecting rust-colored canyons and jagged peaks. Explore ancient rock-hewn churches built during King Lalibela’s reign (12th–13th centuries). Learn about Ethiopia’s Christian heritage.
Day 4: Drive to Mekele
Drive to Mekele via Woldia. Stop in Hayk for lake views and visit local monastery (men only).
Day 5: Mekele — Afdera / Danakil Depression
Drive into Afdera (Danakil – Afrera salt lake) on unpaved 4×4 roads. Explore salt-covered landscapes, salines, and volcanic rifts.
Day 6: Afdera – Erta Ale
Drive to Dodom village at Erta Ale base. Ascend 10 km along volcano flank (~3 hours). Camel caravan carries luggage. Reach the rim of the caldera and observe active lava lake.
Day 7: Erta Ale — Ahmed Ela — Dallol
4×4 drive to Ahmed Ela near Lake Assale. Observe camel salt caravans. Visit Dallol volcano and ghost town built from salt. Witness colorful fumaroles and hot springs.
Day 8: Ahmed Ela — Semeras
Watch camel caravans and salt cutting. Drive through canyon to highlands, stop at small waterfall. Overnight in highland town.
Day 9: Drive to Awash
Drive to Awash National Park. Spot roadside birds like Augur Buzzards, Long-crested Eagles, Northern Carmine Bee-eaters, Abyssinian and Rufous-crowned birds.
Day 10: Awash National Park
Explore Awash National Park on foot. Spot Beisa Oryx, Lesser Kudu, Defassa Waterbuck, Soemmering’s Gazelle, Warthog, Salt’s Dik-dik, Olive Baboons, and exceptional birdlife.
Day 11: Drive back to Addis Ababa
Drive 215 km from Awash National Park to Addis Ababa. Stop at Lake Beseka and Sodere hot springs. Farewell dinner with traditional Ethiopian meals and folkloric dancers. End of tour.
14 Days Combined Tours
Day 01: Arrival and drive to the craters of Debre Zeit
Arrive early, transfer to Debre Zeit (45 km south of Addis Ababa). Explore seven crater lakes, hire paddleboat on Babogaya Crater Lake for birdwatching.
Day 02: Debre Zeit - Wolisso
Short drive to Wolisso via Addis Ababa. Watch ibises in morning flight, check in at lodge. Birds and monkeys visible from terrace.
Day 03: Day excursion to Wenchi Crater Lake
Hike northern crater lake (4–5 hours) or optional riding. Boat trip through valley with old mills, rivers, hot springs. Spot lammergeyer birds.
Day 04: Wolisso - Jimma
Early morning drive to Jimma. Walk along Gibe river, spot birds. Explore picturesque landscapes.
Day 05: Jimma - Bonga: the Biosphere Reserve Kaffa
Walk through Jimma market for coffee. Drive to Kaffa Biosphere Reserve. Stop at cave, explore mountain rainforest around Bonga.
Day 06: Day trip in Reserve to Alem Gonna & Barta Waterfall
Visit Alem Gonna wetland area for birds and monkeys. Walk to Barta waterfall (1 hour), meet beekeepers, learn traditional honey production.
Day 07: Return to Jimma and flight to Addis Ababa
Morning drive back to Jimma. Flight to Addis Ababa. Time for individual activities.
Day 08: Flight Addis Ababa - Bahir Dar
Flight to Bahir Dar. Introduction to NABU work in Lake Tana Biosphere Reserve. Leisure walk along bird-filled promenade.
Day 09: Nature and Culture at Lake Tana
Visit over 30 islands in Lake Tana. Explore remote islands and medieval Christian Orthodox monasteries.
Day 10: Nature and Culture at Lake Tana
Boat trips to monastery islands and birdwatching sites. Spot wintering cranes migrating from Europe.
Day 11: Bahir Dar - Gondar - Kossoye
Drive to Gondar, visit ancient palaces. Continue to Kosober viewpoint. Lodge with panoramic mountain views.
Day 12: Simien National Park: Hiking
Drive to Debark and hike in Simien National Park. Observe endemic Walia Ibex, Gelada baboons, and birds. Picnic and return to Simien Lodge.
Day 13: Simien National Park - Gondar
Excursion in Simien National Park, visit viewpoint Inatye (4,070 m) and Jinbar Waterfall (>500 m). Observe Gelada baboons and enjoy small walks. Return to Gondar.
Day 14: Flight Gondar – Addis Ababa, market and departure
Morning relaxation. Transfer to Gondar airport, flight to Addis Ababa. Souvenir shopping and traditional dinner. End of tour.

Day 1: Arrive to Addis Ababa- City tour
Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Full-day city tour visiting National Museum, Ethnological Museum, and local markets.
Day 2: Fly to Lalibela
Flight to Lalibela. Explore rock-hewn churches built in 12th–13th centuries. Learn about Ethiopia’s Christian heritage. Evening visit to church for eve of Christmas.
Day 3: Lalibela - Genna - Ethiopian Christmas

Day 4: Fly to Gondar

Day 7: Simien Mountains – Gondar
Optional short hike to observation points. Return to Gondar for overnight. Enjoy traditional cuisine.
Day 8: Fly to Axum
