Day Trip Simien Mountains
Option 1: Gondar to Buit Ras (3,260m) via Debark by car / trekking from Buit Ras to Chilkuwanits
We will meet you in the morning at Gondar Airport or your hotel in Gondar. Drive from Gondar to Debark, the headquarter town for the national park. Stop for a permit and meet the scout. Optional visit to local market. Drive 16km to the park gate, then 6km to Buit Ras. Trek 3-4 hours to Chilkuwanit viewpoint. Spot Gelada Baboons, jackal, klipspringer, and birds such as Thickbilled Raven, Augar Buzzard, Black Kites, Lammergayer. See plants like Abyssinian Rose, Erica Arboria, Euphorbia, St. Johns Worttree. Car pickup from Chilkuwanit to Gondar or Axum.
Option 2: Gondar to Sankaber camp (3,250m) via Debark trekking to Jinba waterfall
Meet at Gondar Airport or hotel. Drive to Debark, arrange permits, meet scout. Optional local market visit. Drive 16km to park gate, then 10km to Sankaber camp. Trek 3 hours along ridge with views 800m below, pass Giant Heather, Abyssinian Rose, Oliveria, Globe Thistle. Spot Gelada Baboons, Klipspringer, bushbuck, rockhyrax, possibly leopards. Highlight: Jinba waterfall (500m). Observe Griffen Vulture, Hooded Vulture, Whitebacked Vulture, Lammergayer, and Abyssinian Catbird. Return to Kavamesk and drive back to Gondar or Axum.
Option 3: Gondar to Chenneck camp (3,620m) by car / round trek
Meet at Gondar Airport or hotel. Drive to Debark, arrange permits, meet scout, optional local market visit. Drive 16km to park gate, then 58km to Chenneck camp at foot of Mt. Bwahit (4,430m). Stop at Buit Ras, Sankaber, and Jinba waterfall (500m). Round trek around Chenneck camp, ascend to 4,000m if time allows. Spot Walia Ibex, Ethiopian wolf, vultures, and plants such as Lobelia, Erica Arboria, St. Johns Worttree, and Festuca grass. Return to camp.
2 Days Simien Mountains Trekking
Day 1: Gondar to Sankaber via Buit Ras (3300m)
Drive along paved road from Gondar to Debark (100 km, 2-3 hrs). Arrange permits, pick up scout. Drive another hour to start introductory walk along northern escarpment. Spot Gelada Baboons.
Day 2: Sankaber to Gondar
Follow northern escarpment eastward, descend into Kaba Valley, climb to Gich Abyss, and walk over narrow ridge to cliff with spectacular view. Visit 500m Jinbahir waterfall. Walk back to Sankaber, then drive to Gondar, optional stops for extra walking.
3 Days Simien Mountains Tours
Day 1: Gondar to Sankober via Buit Ras (3300m)
Pickup from hotel in Gondar at 8 am, drive to Debark (2 hr). Sign in at park headquarters, pick up guide and scout. 4x4 to first camp at Sankaber, dropped off on the way for 3 hr acclimatisation hike. Stop for picnic lunch. Short climb to Sankaber, greeted with coffee, tea, and snacks.
Day 2: Sankabar to Geech (3600m)
Trek 5-6 hrs via Jinbar waterfall. Spot Klipspringer, bushbuck, Gelada Baboons. Visit traditional village for home roasted coffee and injurra. Geech Camp on grassy plateau with stunning sunset views.
Day 3: Geech – Imet Gogo – Siha Gorge – Kedar Dit – Ambaras to Gondar
Walk to Imet Gogo promontory (3,926m) for panoramic view of Simien Mountains. Return via Siha Gorge, lunch, then drive to Gondar.
4 Days Simien Mountains Tours
Day 1: Sankaber (3250m), 3-4 hours
Early start from Gondar, drive 3 hr to Debark for permits, meet guide and scout. Drive 1 hr into park. Introductory hike along northern escarpment. Spot Gelada Baboons. Arrival at Sankaber campsite, tea and coffee.
Day 2: Gich (3600m), 5-6 hours
Follow northern escarpment eastward, descend to Kaba valley, climb to Gich Abyss and narrow ridge. View 500m Jinbar waterfall. Ascend through fields of barley to Gich village. Short walk to Gich camp, spot lammergeyer, black kite, thick-billed raven. Optional coffee ceremony. Short hike to Kedadit (3760m) for sunset.
Day 3: Chennek (3600m), 7-8 hours
From Gich camp, pass giant lobelia fields. Ascend optional Imet-Gogo and Saha viewpoints. Descend into Jinbar River Valley, climb to summit of Inatye (4070m). Descend to Chennek camp. Spot Walia Ibex, enjoy dinner.
Day 4: Chennek to Buhawit (4430m), round trip, 5-6 hours
Morning climb to Buwahit (4430m), spot Walia Ibex, Simien fox. Scenic views of valleys and Ras-Dejen. Return to Chennek for lunch, then drive through National Park to Debark and Gondar.
Bale Mountains Tour
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Bale Mountains National Park
Morning drive from Addis to Bale Mountains National Park. Arrive at park HQ in afternoon. Drive to Gaysey Grasslands. Leisure hike, spot Menelik's bushbuck, giant mole rat, endemic birds like Rouget’s rail, Ethiopian wolf habitat.
Day 2: Sanetti Plateau
Full-day hike on Sanetti Plateau, highest part of Bale. Look for Ethiopian wolf, mountain nyala, giant mole rat, endemic birds. Scenic views, photo opportunities. Overnight in Harenna Lodge.
Day 3: Web Valley – Harenna Forest
Morning hike along Web Valley, lush forests, endemic flora. Spot bird species such as Rouget's rail and black-headed siskin. Drive to Harenna Forest, explore afro-montane forest. Overnight at lodge.
Day 4: Harenna Forest – Addis Ababa
Early morning walk for birds and wildlife. Return drive to Addis Ababa. Optional stop for photography along scenic valleys. Arrive in evening.
